WHY SHOULD YOU DO SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR COURSES WHEN YOU CAN JUST APPLY FOR THEM YOURSELF WITH PADI?

  • Nothing is better than getting hands on experience teaching new courses, especially when you have the guidance of very experienced instructors and a Course Director to turn for teaching tips and organizing of specialty courses.
  • Safety considerations, such as wreck penetration, Search and Recovery handling of large objects. It makes sense to get hands on practise with the requirements of these courses yourself, before you start teaching them.
  • PADI application fees for specialty instructor ratings are cheaper when you have done the courses with a PADI Course Director (Method 1 Application)
  • Working together with others and gaining valuable experience diving... is a lot of fun!

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT FOR EACH SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR COURSE: For each course candidates are required to:

  • Present one micro-teaching classroom presentation.dsc002151.cm2
  • Locate Key standards from the Specialty Instructor Outlines.
  • List student and Instructor equipment requirements.
  • Explain Open Water Training considerations for training dives.
  • Demonstrate mastery of Knowledge Development and water skills for specialty courses.
  • Conduct teaching assignments and demonstrations for Specialty Open Water training.
  • Describe successful marketing and promotion for PADI Specialty courses.

DIVE LOCATIONS FOR THE SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR COURSES:

The Specialty Instructor Courses have 1 - 2 training dives required, although we still do 2 dives per day anyway, why not? Dives are conducted at either Koh Haa (5 Islands), Koh Bida (Phi Phi) and Hin Daeng (Red Rock) and Hin Muang (Purple Rock). All day trips to the dive sites include breakfast, lunch and other refreshments!

Img49.png

This group of five islands (Koh Haa) is only a 2 hour journey from Koh Lanta and has a great variety of walls and abundant coral life. Depths of 45 meters can be easily reached here.

Hin Daeng and Hin Muang is situated due south from Lanta, a 3 and a half hour journey from Lanta... you won't be disappointed. Hin Muang is a Pinnacle that starts 12 meters below the surface and drops down to at least 70 meters. The pinnacle itself is over 250 meters long and is a magnet for Manta Rays and Whale sharks.

The Koh Bida Islands are actually part of the well known Phi Phi Islands. Only a 1 hour and 45 minutes journey from Koh Lanta, the Bida Islands offer fantastic diving with frequent sightings of Zebra Shark, Blacktip Reef Shark, Turtles and much more. The Bida islands are decorated with colorful soft corals and large sea fans.

awaresharklogo.cm2

The Shark specialty course is a course unlike any other that you may ever experience. Sharks have for years been portrayed as the monster of the oceans, and to be feared by anyone who dared enter the oceans water.

This PADI Shark Awareness course was designed and structured by PADI Course Director Brendon Sing, who
personally created his own material and outline and had it approved by PADI's stringent evaluation process. The PADI Shark Awareness course is a distinctive PADI non-diving certification that only Brendon can teach up to the instructor level through PADI. Even though the course does not require any dives, Brendon will include two dives in search of the sharks in the local area.

dsc01956.cm2

Sharks have now become the most interesting and fascinating creatures that divers could possibly encounter. During the course we are going to have exciting opportunities to study and view, the not so well known Zebra (Leopard) Shark at close hand. The Zebra Shark is often encountered in the Andaman Sea near the Phi Phi (Bida) Islands.

VIDEOGRAPHY SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR - 1 Day / 2 Dives

This is by far one of the favorites of Specialties to teach. If you already have experience working with underwater housings and lighting equipment, then this is for sure one for you. This course will also inspire Instructors with little experience with underwater videography to try something new and then be able to share that knowledge and experience with students.

The best part about underwater videography is to take the raw footage and then build it into an edited project. At Lanta Diver we will take additional time to familiarize you with digital video editing and how to make projects available on DVD to give to your students. For some, underwater videography and editing has become a full time job in the dive industry. It is a valuable skill to have to increase potential working opportunities around the world.

WRECK DIVER INSTRUCTOR- 1 Day / 2 Dives

As an experienced diver you may have had opportunities to dive on wrecks before. If you remember the first time you dived on a wreck, you may remember that adrenaline rush and thrill of seeing something that once existed in our world, now at the bottom of another. As a Wreck Specialty Instructor, you open the opportunity to teach the pre-planning steps, preparation, safety considerations and penetration setup for entering wrecks.

From Koh Lanta we have 2 wrecks which we dive, one more regularly dived than the other, the famous King Cruiser wreck.

kcruiserwreckx.cm2

The King Cruiser sank on the 4th of May 1997 apparently miles off course after striking the popular Phuket dive site Anemone reef on it's way to Koh Phi-Phi from Phuket. So far was the vessel off course, and so in need of a decent wreck dive site, local divers joked that the captain took a massive bribe to slam the vessel into the reef. As seen by the left picture, no one got hurt during the sinking apart from the insurers.

kingcruisera.cm2

This recent wreck lies upright on the sandy bottom and comes up to within 10m of the surface. It lies about 3 hours from Koh Lanta. Though the  wreck was almost completely intact after being released from the salvers, it is of low cost construction and deteriorating quickly. Barracuda and Whale-Sharks are often seen patrolling the wreck, with the usual large grouper and lionfish lurking in the darker more 'technical' penetration areas. The Big open passage ways, car deck, and bridge area are relatively safe penetration for all but the most muppety divers, but strong currents and rough seas due to it's exposed location, generally make this site more suitable for experienced recreational divers. Tech divers will find this a simple wreck to explore.

DEEP DIVER INSTRUCTOR - 1 Day / 2 Dives

fan-coral-koh-bida.cm2

As an Open water Scuba Instructor you will have your fare share of
teaching PADI Open Water and PADI Advanced courses. This also
means that most of the time you will not dive much deeper than
30m. If you enjoying diving deep, then you will have a great time
teaching students to dive deep as well, safely and well organized.

During the Deep Specialty Instructor course we look at special
logistics involved when conducting deep dives with students, as well
as provide you with some interesting techniques, tips and
underwater games/puzzles for using during deep dives to show
students the effect of pressure at depth. At Lanta Diver we also spend additional time on
the safety considerations of diving deep; such as setting up drop tanks, having emergency
equipment quickly available and perfecting emergency action plans for diving emergencies.

SEARCH & RECOVERY DIVER INSTRUCTOR - 1 Day / 2 Dives

If you have done the PADI Search & Recovery Specialty Course you will remember what a blast it was. Working with lift bags, finding small and large objects and moving objects from the bottom of the ocean to the surface. The objective that everyone gets a kick out of, is of course tying those 3 knots; the sheet bend, bowline and two half hitches.

dsc08258.cm2

If you have not done the course yourself, then you are in for a real treat. The Search & Recovery Instructor course is challenging, fun and is accomplished best by team work. The Search & Recovery specialty course is definitely one of the best and exhilarating courses to teach. It challenges those with navigation skills, extreme underwater communication and equipment use with lift bags, reels and lines altogether. This is one course that is highly under rated, and yet very rewarding for you and your students. The Search & Recovery Specialty is Highly recommended (and should be marketed) to students wanting to reach their PADI Divemaster certification.

NIGHT DIVER INSTRUCTOR - 1 Day / 2 Dives

View of Phi Phi from Koh Lanta

Night diving is great fun, its more mysterious and it makes divers explore the underwater world in much more detail. Diving at night presents the opportunity to witness marine life in action, one of which you would not experience during the day. Night diving from Koh Lanta is an unforgettable experience. The first dive is done so that when you surface its just before sunset. After the surface interval and a good meal we get ready to enter the water for the night dive. Our night dives are usually conducted at either Koh Bida or Koh Haa.

Night diving has become very popular as its been offered on a more regular basis. This has also created interest for divers to take courses to learn more about diving safely at night taking into consideration for special logistics, pre-planning, equipment, dive procedures, navigation and communication for safe and enjoyable night dives. This is exactly what the Night Diver Instructor course is all about.

NAVIGATION DIVER INSTRUCTOR - 1 Day / 2 Dives

koh haa 1 again.cm2

Navigation is actually a lot more fun that what most divers think it is. The skills and objectives involved with the specialty course is challenging and tons of fun. From doing various different pattern swims to underwater treasure hunting and flag marking games, makes this specialty a winner.

The good news is, that as an instructor for this specialty, you don't even have to be in the water! In fact the best position to supervise these exercises is on top of the boat. Although there are always better reasons to get wet anyway, its more fun for the students when you are down there with them providing guidance and special tips! The Instructor course will provide you with amazing setup information for teaching the PADI Navigation Diver Specialty course. As well as interesting navigation games and tools, you as the instructor candidate will also have the opportunity to do the navigation skills yourself.

MULILEVEL DIVER INSTRUCTOR - 1 Day / 2 Dives

Img44.png

The Multilevel and Computer diver PADI Specialty is what we sometimes call "The art of real and safe diving". Real diving, because in the modern world most divers use computers and do dives where a diver would start at depth and work their way shallower, extending their bottom time. Safer diving, because we as instructors encourage students to pay attention to their depth and times while diving, but most importantly to plan their dives
and not blindly following dive computers only.

This is a very worth while course to teach. It's not just teaching divers about using the
wheel and using computers, it also to teach student divers to follow their dive plan and
use their computers as back-ups. During the instructor course with Lanta Diver we will
subjected you to multiple brands of dive computers and their functions as well as the
logistics and conduct of the PADI Multilevel & Computer Specialty course.
